Rekeyable
A key that's yours alone
Factory keyed alike padlocks come pre-keyed in batches, which means other buyers hold the same key code. Rekeyable padlocks are different — we key them ourselves, to a code nobody else has.
That matters when the lock is protecting something where "probably fine" isn't good enough.
What rekeyable lets you do
- Mix sizes on one key. A 45mm on the gate, a 50mm on the container, a weatherproof lock on the exposed one — all opening with the same key. Factory keyed alike can't do this, because the locks arrive pre-keyed and the group has to be identical.
- Hold a unique code. Your key opens your locks and nothing else.
- Extend the system later. Add locks in a year and they'll match what you already have.
- Step up to restricted keying. Keys that can't be copied without your written authorisation, individually stamped cylinders, and a key register — for sites where key control is a compliance requirement rather than a convenience.
Standard key or restricted key?
Standard unique key — we key your locks to a code that's yours. The key can still be copied by any locksmith, so it isn't key control, but the code is exclusive to you. Suits most commercial sites.
Restricted key system — a registered keyway, controlled duplication, and an auditable key register. Necessary for Defence, critical infrastructure, controlled substances and regulated sites. This is a service rather than a product, so give us a call and we'll design it around your site.
The trade-off
Rekeyable padlocks cost more per lock than factory keyed alike — typically two to three times as much — and a restricted system adds setup on top. If you're securing a site compound, a bin store or a set of gates where a shared batch code is an acceptable risk, factory keyed alike does the job for far less.
